The link between sugar and dementia

That donut.. Just increased your chances of getting dementia or Alzheimer’s later on in life.

Think about that next time you’re in the shopping aisle and are tempted by that pack of Hobnobs or carrot cake.

Dr. Lisa Mosconi holds a Ph.D. degree in Neuroscience and is a certified Nutritionist. She has dedicated her career researching and understanding brain deterioration.

She concludes that brain ageing is more within our control than initially thought and that diet plays an integral role in brain health.

In the past, Alzheimer’s was considered to be as a consequence of ‘bad’ genes inherited or due to ‘natural ageing’ of the brain. This is now universally accepted as being false and that there is a direct link between sugar consumption and brain disease. And that sugar rots the brain. More recent studies show people with diabetes have a four-fold risk for developing Alzheimer's.

Dr Mosconi has published Brain Food: How to Eat Smart and Sharpen Your Mind. Take a look here if you're interested.
